Look What I Found! 8.12.11

Hey!  Look what I found!  This is the first installment that I plan to make every Friday, if luck is with me.  I’ve long toyed with the idea that, if I had the cash, I’d make copies of articles that I liked or found immensely interesting and mail them to my friends.  Well, linking from my blog makes that idea obsolete.  So, instead, look what I found!

• Time for a perfect Mojito!

• Compassionate Conservatism in the midst of our Jobs Crisis?  Right . . .

• From the Department of Pinocchio’s “I Got No Strings on Me” comes this political puppet’s number one hit.  Make sure you watch the video — he’s as condescending to the audience as a holier-than-thou tv preacher.

• Who supports higher taxes to reduce the deficit?  America does

• A wonderful online graphic novel about censorship in small-town America.  Read it now for free . . . it’s almost finished!

• Do you miss Twin Peaks?  Go here to sign the petition to restore all the deleted scenes to Fire Walk With Me, and to simply keep up with giants, dwarfs, the owls, and other assorted major weirdness.

• Speaking of major weirdness . . . how about Michele “Cross-eyed for Christ” Bachmann?  Here’s an in-depth look at her major influences, published a few days ago in the New Yorker.  And how about this piece from Rolling Stone?  “Bachmann is a religious zealot whose brain is a raging electrical storm of divine visions and paranoid delusions. She believes that the Chinese are plotting to replace the dollar bill, that light bulbs are killing our dogs and cats, and that God personally chose her to become both an IRS attorney who would spend years hounding taxpayers and a raging anti-tax Tea Party crusader against big government.”  Complete article is here.    Also, here’s a report about how this loony tune believes that “public education would spark [a] new Holocaust.”

• Whatever happened to the intelligent and hilarious Buck Henry

• With banks reporting record profits (but not because of any dubious practices, oh, no, never!) and the American people getting poorer and poorer, this guy gets it absolutely right (it’s a video).   So, do you need proof he’s right?  Here, read this one first, and then read this one.

• Not all the news is bad.  Has science found a cure for the cold . . . and perhaps every viral infection?  Wow!  Has science found a cure for leukemia?  Double Wow!

• A writer, Harlan Ellison, when asked by a stupid interviewer, “Where do you get your ideas?” replied, “Schnectady.”  Mike Huckabee must get his ideas from an alternate Earth . . .
